Machine-like language

Ramblings of a hopeless idealist

First post a type of website that hugely appeals to me: Machine generated text that appears convincingly to be part of the texts it’s trying to ridicule

My first encounter ages ago was the KKE Generator
Parodying the formulaic and context-insensitive response of the Greek communist party to literally all events.

“One of the things I learnt the hard way was that it doesn’t pay to get discouraged. Keeping busy and making optimism a way of life can restore your faith in yourself.” – Lucille Ball

Success: the right picture of it and how to get there

asherwitmer

When I was in High School, I thought success meant that you make a plan to get something and get it.

You want a degree? Map out your school track and start studying. Once you get your degree you’ll be successful.

There’s a lot of talk in our culture about knowing what we’re going to do with our lives and having a plan to get there. The pressure is that we need to map it out now, or we’ll miss it.

I’m twenty-four, which means that many of my peers who are in the MLB are already entering the prime of their careers. Talk about panic! What am I doing with my life?

I’ll be honest, I really don’t know what I will be doing in ten years. But what if that detail doesn’t really matter?

Great Websites for Kids

Mr. Walsh

I have lamented here before about how there is so much material on the internet that we have to sift through to find the really good stuff. Well, this site does a pretty good job. It is aptly named “Great Websites for Kids” and is sponsored by the Association For Library Service To Children, a division of the American Library Association. They add sites three times a year as well as reviews sites to ensure they are still working. That’s a lot of footwork already done for the busy educator. It is a great boon for classroom teachers and can perhaps be especially useful to those who are home schooled.

I just found it tonight so expect more posts soon about individual sites. For now, I leave it up to you to explore.

Also note that popular websites like YouTube, Vine, Facebook, Twitter etc have been left out purposely since they are a much better fit in a different Top 5/10 list. I wanted to provide…
